Cochlear® Sound Processor
Cochlear implants are prosthetic devices that provide some hearing from persons with severe to profound hearing loss who receive little or no benefit from hearing aids.
Children and adults must meet certain criteria in order to be eligible to receive a cochlear implant in Ontario.
Cochlear Nucleus 7 Sound Processor: The Nucleus 7 Sound Processor is the world’s first Made for iPhone cochlear impact. This sound processor allows users to stream sound directly without wearing an accessory from iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
Cochlear Kanso Sound Processor: The Kanso Sound Processor provides a new way for cochlear implant users to hear. The Kanso is not worn on the ear. It is a small, off-the-ear hearing device that provides a discreet hearing solution.
Bone Anchored Hearing Aids
Bone Anchored Hearing Aids (BAHA) are surgically implanted into a patient’s skull. Once implanted, the BAHA sound processor picks up sound and then transmits it through the processor via vibrations to the inner ear.
Through our partnership with Cochlear Canada, we are able to provide all BAHA® sound processors, parts, accessories, replacements and repairs. We distribute the latest BAHA® technologies including Cochlear BAHA® 5 and all wireless accessories.
Cochlear BAHA 5 and Baha 5 Power Sound Processor: The Baha 5 sound processor is one of the smallest on the market. These processors are also Made for iPhone devices that let you stream sound directly from iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Using the Baha 5 smart app you are able to control, monitor and customize the sound processor.
Soft Band application: For those young children considering the Baha surgery but are too young, there is the option of a soft band. The processor plugs into the soft band which can be worn like a traditional head band on the infant or small child. This is an excellent transitional way to wear and experience the Baha before or without surgery.
BAHA® Loaner Program
Union Hearing Aid Centre is pleased to offer BAHAs that may be loaned for potential BAHA® surgery candidates. These loaners are to be worn on a softband, which can be purchased in the office. However, this loaner program is exclusive to patients referred to us by one of the ENTs in the Otolaryngology department at the Hospital for Sick Children.
Important Notice Security Control Instructions (ie: airports, museums, etc.): You must make security aware you have undergone surgery and you have a titanium implant(s) placed in your head that cannot be removed. The BAHA sound processor can be removed before passing through a metal detector unit. There is an information card available through Cochlear® Canada that can be presented to security when travelling. This card has all of this information printed on it.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): As long as the BAHA sound processor is removed for the MRI procedure, the titanium implant and abutment can be exposed during an examination without any risk. The resulting artifacts are minor. This information is available on a card for presentation to the MRI technician through Cochlear® Canada.
